Originally called Discover Brokerage, this project was Max's first implementation of his now-standard collaborative design process. He set up an exclusive workspace for his team in a cavernous vacant loft and surrounded the work area with dry-erase panels. Then, they invited subject matter experts from the brokerage to participate in design sessions. Their first and most popular innovation was the Action Menu, a dropdown embedded next to every ticker symbol, enabling the day traders that were the primary users of the site to place instant trades or get a graph or news, all with one click. Although online brokerages were proliferating, there was nothing like this on the web at the time.

The response to this design was overwhelming: all the major financial media proclaimed it the number one online brokerage.
